Description
1mm thick (210x300mm) Titanium Sheet – Grade 2
Ant Weight, Beetle Weight BattleBot Armour/Chassis Material.
1mm Grade 2 Titanium is the ultimate light weight armour plating for Beetle weights, although only for secondary plating, eg over the top of other chassis material. Its bend-ability makes it good armour for wrapping around bot features, but susceptible to denting with big hits.
Its perfect for antweight weapon blade material and for chassis components.
Consider Gr5 and thicknesses bigger than 3mm for competitive frontal armour with no chassis backing.
With difficulty it be cut with tin snips, although saws, Dremel’s and angle grinders are easier. It can easily be drilled without special bits, bent with hand tools.
It has a good combination of strength, formability, ductility and weldability.
Its lighter than common steel and relatively harder.
Density – 4.506 g/cm³ (compared to common stainless steel 304, ~8g/cm³)
TIPS:
– When bending try not to re-bend back and forth as this will cause cracking.
– Expect slight spring back when bending, so over-bend by +-4degrees.
– Add slight radius to your bends to prevent cracking 2~3mm should be fine.
– When drilling use slow RPM and high pressure. Consider cutting fluid.
– If cutting complicated shapes, consider water jetting services over tinsnips.
Note – not to be confused with more commonly used, Grade 5, Gr5 (6AL-4V) ASTM B265, which contains Titanium alloy. 6% aluminium, 4% vanadium. This type is “harder” and #1 choice for armouring combat robots, especially in heavy weight classes. It’s overkill in armouring ant-weights and very difficult to work with. Its needed for Beetle weight or higher front armour thats expecting a beating.
Stock – Stock is limited, but back order is available. Please allow ~2 weeks for back order shipments.
